On February 19, Congregation Orach Chaim will launch a new adult education initiative aimed at developing deep reading skills through the study of classic Jewish texts/deep readings of classic Jewish texts. In Part 1 of the initiative, we will be learning Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik’s classic On Repentance, with a specific focus on how the Rav constructs his worldview, his unique take on the subject of repentance within the field of religious literature, and what the Rav’s thought can teach us about our lives as thoughtful, committed Jews. Rabbi Skydell will lead and facilitate each of the 4 90-minute long sessions. Participants will be expected to purchase the book and prepare readings in advance of each meeting. For those interested in participating, please register below. Participants can purchase the book through Judaica Classics by Doina at 1248 Lexington Avenue.

In our first session on Wednesday, February 19 at 8 p.m. at Rabbi Skydell’s home, we will discuss the concept of teshuva in the rabbinic canon, before delving into the Rav’s unique perspective on the concept via the first essay, “Acquittal and Purification.” We look forward to seeing you there.
